PORTER VAN ZANDT joined Circle Repertory Company in 1978 as Producing Director and has presided over a managerial and financial reorganization that has placed the company among the most conscientiously administered of the nation's theatres. He has been known for the past 30 years as one of the theater's most accomplished producers, directors and production stage managers. On Broadway he was producer of Talley's Folly, the associate producer of Shakespeare's Richard III starring Al Pacino, The Robber Bridegroom starring Barry Bostwick and Daphne in Cottage D starring Sandy Dennis. In 1978, he produced a three play series for the Summer Festival at Baltimore's Morris Mechanic Theatre and the Empire State Plaza Dedication Weekend in Albany, New York. From 1973-1978 Mr. Van Zandt served as Executive Director of The Acting Company with Artistic Director John Houseman. He produced the Berkshire Theatre Festival's 1971 season which included Promenade All by David Robinson, The Goodbye People by Herb Gardner and Where Has Tommy Flowers Gone by Terrance McNally. He has directed plays for summer theaters, road companies, regional theaters, and foreign productions in Europe, South America, Israel and Australia. His credits include Two For The Seasaw, Wait Until Dark, Miracle Worker, A Thousand Clowns, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, My Fair Lady and The King and I. Early in his career, Mr. Van Zandt supervised and stage managed over two dozen Broadway shows. He has been Administrative Consultant for The Negro Ensemble Company and Dance Theatre of Harlem and has served as consultant on numerous Broadway shows in artistic and production areas. He serves on the Board of Directors of Circle Repertory Company and The Voice Foundation and is a member of The New York State Council on the Arts Presenting Organizations Panel.
