Peter Pucci
PETER PUCCI was born and raised in Baltimore. He graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with a BFA. For nine years he was a member of Pilobolus Dance Theatre, where he served as principal dancer, co-choreographer, and rehearsal director. While with Pilobolus, Peter toured and taught worldwide, made several film and television appearances, performed on Broadway, collaborated on many Pilobolus pieces, and presented his own works on Pilobolus programs. Since 1986, Peter has directed and choreographed for his own, Peter Pucci Plus Dancers. Since its founding, the company has performed annually in New York City, including five appearances at the Joyce Theater, and has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. The company has twice been presented on public television by KRMA-TV Denver, One Night Only and Peter Pucci: Curtain Time. The second program has been rebroadcasted nationwide on PBS. Peter Pucci Plus Dancers had it's Broadway premiere at The New Victory Theater. Peter has created movement for many theatrical productions including Sam Shepard's The Late Henry Moss produced by The Signature Theater in New York and The Magic Theater in San Francisco. Peter has worked with Mr. Shepard on several other productions including Eyes for Consuela produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club and Fool for Love produced by The McCarter Theater. Other Movement Direction credits include: Miss Julie at Yale Repertory Theatre; After Ashley at The Vineyard Theater; True Love at The Zipper Theatre; Fall for Baltimore Center Stage and Berkeley Repertory Theatre; Merry Wives of Windsor and Twelfth Night for The Shakespeare Theatre; Hamlet, The Cherry Orchard, The Learned Ladies and The Importance of Being Earnest for The McCarter Theater; Macbeth and Camino Real for The Hartford Stage; Love's Labor's Lost at Shakespeare Santa Cruz and the national tour of The Civil War. Peter has also created movement for industrials, fashion shows, commercials, videos, film, television, skaters, opera and several dance segments for the children's television program Bear in the Big Blue House. In addition to creating over 50 repertory works for PP+, Peter has choreographed ballets for numerous ballet and modern dance companies both in the US and abroad. For The Joffrey Ballet, he has created Moon of the Falling Leaves, After the Fall, and Willing and Able, to music by rock-music star Prince also presented on PBS' Great Performances. Additional commissions include ballets for Alberta Ballet (set to a suite of songs by k.d. lang), Ballet Arizona, Ballet Met, Ballet Pacifica, Colorado Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet. In 1990, Peter became the first recipient of the Samuel H. Scripps Humphrey/Weidman/Limon Fellowship, a choreographic commission awarded by the American Dance Festival. Peter is also the winner of an Absolut Joffrey Award for Choreography and two Choo-San Goh Awards for Choreography. Bio as of June, 2011.
