BILLIE ALLEN's first Broadway show as a dancer was On The Town, after which many musicals followed. Dramas included: A Raisin in The Sun, Blues For Mister Charlie and Critic's Choice. Off- Broadway, she created the role of Sara in Funnyhouse of a Negro. She recently directed St. Lucy's Eyes, starring Ruby Dee, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, New York and the Alliance Theatre Company in Atlanta. Some of her directing favorites include: The Brothers by Kathleen Collins at the American Place Theatre, Ms. Waters to You at AMAS Repertory Theater and Little Ham at the George St., Playhouse. Ms. Allen served as a national judge for the Kennedy Center's National Collegiate Theater Festival. She is Co-author and Associate Director of the film Bearden Plays Bearden: The Work and Life of Romare Bearden, now showing with the National Gallery of Arts traveling retrospective. Boards include: AMAS and Women's Project. This season she will direct Adrienne Kennedy's Funnyhouse of a Negro at the Classical Theatre of Harlem.
